HUSSAIN SAGAR


Hussain Sagar is a lake in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India, built by Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali in 1562, during the rule of Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah. It is spread across an area of 5.7 square kilometers and is fed by River Musi. A large monolithic statue of the Gautam Buddha, erected in 1992 stands in an island in the middle of the lake. Maximum depth of the lake is 32 feet.


Hussain Sagar is one of the largest man made lakes is situated at Hyderabad. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it connects the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. A famous monolith of Lord Buddha is installed at the center of the lake. Hussain Sagar Lake is popularly known as the Tank Bund, a major spot of tourist attractions.


If you are exploring Hussain Sagar Lake, you must see other nearby tourist spots like Lumbini Park, an amusement park and enchanting Birla Mandir and Planetarium. Standing on the Tank Bund at night, one is awe-struck to see the glimmering row of lights outlining the lake that looks like a diamond studded necklace. This is the necklace road that enhances the beauty of Hussain Sagar. The famous and ancient temple of Katta Maisamma, meaning goddess of the dam, is very close to this park and attracts a lot of devotees every year.
